wedding registry,valentines day, and more!

So much has been going on these past couple of weeks, I don’t even know where to begin!

As many of you know, my sister is getting married as well! She will be marrying the man of her dreams in March of 2015. After waiting and waiting and waiting for her to be ready to go try on wedding dresses, we finally went! We spent two weekends going from store to store plundering through a ton of beautiful dresses! It was so much fun being able to help HER put on all those dresses since she was the one who helped me do the same! We had the absolute best time dress hunting. We did a lot of laughing, a lot of talking, and a lot of comparing dress pictures on pic stich.

This past Friday was Valentine’s day! Devin decided he was going to come up to Greenville on Friday for the weekend to see me because I had a huge test on Monday so I still needed to get some studying done. Thursday night, I was sitting at my kitchen table studying and I heard a loud bang on my door. Now…living with 3 girls in Greenville, NC and having someone bang on your door…all three of us looked at each other like, “who’s going to get that?” As Jessica braved up and opened the door (and hid behind it as she opened it) Devin came through the door! What a happy feeling seeing that handsome boy standing there! He surprised me by coming a day early! Yippie!

After class on Friday, Devin told me there was something he had been wanting to do. After having a romantic Valentines day lunch date at Jimmy Johns, he drove me over to the BB&T. He told me he wanted us to go ahead and open up a savings account together! We’ve been saving up money together for a while now. Devin and I worked at the Sunset Slush of Holden Beach that his family owns. The nights we worked together, we would sit a jar out on the counter that said, “Honeymoon Fund.” Surprisingly, we did fairly well with our help us out jar! We saved up all of our tips and put it away. I am thankful that Devin was responsible enough to save it so now we have a little bit of money to start our marriage out with!

When we decided we were going to spend Valentine ’s Day weekend in Greenville, we thought “what could be a better day to start our WEDDING REGISTRY!?!” Since Devin and I will not be living with each other until the night of our wedding, we had a lot of registering to do because we will be starting a brand new home together. Walking into Bed, Bath, and Beyond, we were so pumped to get started. I thought Devin was going to just snatch the registering gun from the woman and run because he was so excited to get to scanning! In our minds we thought we just went and scanned everything we saw that we wanted but there’s a little more of a technique to it than that. I never knew there were so many different kinds of silverware, containers, plates, sheets, etc. We were quickly overwhelmed with it all. One of the ladies that worked there saw us struggling so she tagged along and helped us to find the things we actually needed to be looking at. After we got the hang of it, we starting really getting an image of what our home will look like! Deciding on colors and décor was exciting because this is what we will be seeing every day!

Valentines Day Part 2
Saturday morning we got up early and went and had breakfast at the local Cracker Barrel. After we finished eating we decided we were going to also go to Target and start a wedding registry there. When we walked in, all we had to do was sign in on the computer, grab a scanner, and go! After spending 4 hours in Bed, Bath, and Beyond registering the day before, we felt more confident in what to do. When we got to scanning, I felt like Devin and I really had the same taste in almost everything and compromised on the things we didn’t! I am a very visual person. If you don’t draw me a picture or show me an example of something, I will not have any idea of what you are talking about. So for Devin, this meant creating a kitchen table display in the middle of targets aisle so I could see his vision. Spoiled much?

After we finished registering, Devin told me he had a craft he wanted us to do. He wouldn’t tell me what we were making because he wanted the end result to be a surprise. We went to Michael’s and got some paint, paint brushes, chalk, wood, and little pegs. When we got back to my apartment, he got everything ready and told me what to paint. While waiting on the paint to dry, I crammed in a little bit of studying while he tried to dry the wood with my hair dryer. After it was all painted, he told me to study and he’d finish the rest.

This is almost the end result……
This is a sign that will hang in our kitchen in our first home. When it’s completed, it will have our names on blocks that we can put up and write each other notes!

As you can all tell, Devin is full of surprises all the time. When people say they get bored in their relationship and “fall out of love,” I just honestly do not know how. Even after 7 years of being with the same person, I am still absolutely crazy about that boy. Devin constantly keeps me on my toes and I fall in love with him more and more each and every day.  I feel so loved and am constantly reminded of the love God has given me. Devin is my best friend and I do not know what I would do without him. Thank you for a wonderful Valentines day weekend!!

my sweet mama sue

Mrs. Susie has been a part of my life forquite a while now. I can still remember the first time I met her! It was at one of Devin’s high school football games.  Kelli Tatum, one of my sister’s good high school friends, took me over to introduce me to them. Kelli knew the Sellers very well so she wasn’t a bit shy when we walked over. As we approached them, I noticed it wasn’t just Devin’s parents I was meeting…it was his mom, dad, brother, five of his brother’s friends, the Buffkin family, maw-maw…the list could go on and on. They always sat on the top bleacher at the games so from that day on, I knew where to look for them! I can honestly say that since the day I met her, she has treated me like her daughter. I was 14 years old when I first met the Sellers crew. God’s timing is so beautiful and perfect because he knew I needed this family at this point in my life. My high school life was by no means a walk in the park. My family went through some very difficult times and she was always there for me with welcoming arms.

I always admired how involved Mrs. Susie and Mr. Donald were in Devin and Drew’s life. They never missed a thing the boys were involved in. I realized very quickly that if I wanted to be a part of this family, I needed to learn at least the basics of sports or I would be the easy target for jokes. On the flip side though…I’m sure Mrs. Susie never once imagined she’d have to sit through so many dance recitals with only having boys! Once Devin and I started dating, Mrs. Susie never missed a single one of my events either. Proms, dance recitals, graduation, etc. Whatever it was, she was going to be there. It is so special to look back and think about her being there alongside  my mom and I while I looked for prom dresses and dance costumes! It’s crazy to think that now we are picking out wedding stuff!

I am so grateful to be entering a family that has been a huge part of my teen years. Mrs. Susie and Mr. Donald have always told me I was one of them! Family pictures, family dinners, you name it…I was there. If I ever tried to take a picture of the family, they’d yell at me and tell me to come on and get in the picture! It wasn’t too long after Devin and I started dating that they told me to stop ringing that doorbell and just come on in.

Mrs. Susie is one of the strongest women I have ever met. She has been a great role model to me with seeing how to live a God centered life and a family centered life. Her love for her husband is a wonderful example to me for how I want to love my husband. I wish more than anything that Papa bear could be here right now and see me become a Sellers girl. He always called me his baby girl and I know he knew I would have the Sellers name one day. I promise Mrs. Susie to love your son like you love your husband. Thank you for giving me my best friend.
