A year ago from today…my life was changed forever. The love
of my life asked me to marry him! June 8th will always be such a
special date to both Devin and I. It is the day we started dating 7 years ago
and the day we got engaged. There has never been a June 8th to go by
that Devin has not made me feel like the most special person in the world. Mr.
Donald always told Devin he was setting himself up for failure because since he
started out with our anniversary being such a big deal, he’d always have to make
it a big deal. Hehehe. Devin hasn’t let me down yet so he is still doing well.
I love to look back and see what we did in the past years, so I’ll share a
little with you all about some of our past anniversary dates!
Year one: Devin took me on the most romantic picnic on Ocean
Isle Beach. He picked me up from my house with a picnic basket and a blanket in
the backseat. We rode down to the end of the beach and made us a little picnic
on the sand dunes. He opened up the basket and pulled out black to-go boxes
filled with Boundary House chicken tenders and French Fries. After we ate we
went to the gazebo and watched the sunset while sitting on the tail gate of his
truck.
Year two: Devin took me to the Ripley’s Aquarium and then to
eat at Margaritaville at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach! We had so much
fun playing around in at the aquarium and looking at all the fishes! We finished off our anniversary date with Krispy Kreme and after we
got back to Ocean Isle Beach, we went and sat out at the gazebo to just sit,
relax, and enjoy each other’s company.
Year Three: We started off our day with a date on the beach! Devin took me that night to watch a show at the Palace
Theater in Myrtle Beach! Going to see “Broadway” type shows is something both
of us love to do. To see such talent and entertainment is amazing!
Year Four: Devin and I took a trip to CHARLESTON. We toured
all of downtown Charleston. We spent countless hours in the market, did a horse
and buggy tour, historical home tours, walked along the battery, and of course
swung in the swing down by the water. We also went down to Folly Beach for a
day and explored that town. We had some of the best crabcakes that we still
talk about today, I got to touch a shark that some of the local fishermen
caught on the pier, and we also went down to the light house!
Year Five: Devin made dinner reservations at one of the most beautiful restaurants overlooking the waterway in Wilmington. Before we left for dinner that night he told me to bring a bag with a bathing suit in it and some comfy clothes. I had no idea what he had planned. After we finished up with dinner, he drove us down to Carolina Beach where we camped out! The next morning, we got up and spent the day hanging out on Wrightsville Beach! We got to adventure two new beaches we had never been to in one weekend! Devin and I went to the Pirates Voyage show in
Myrtle Beach that next night. The show was awesome and the food was fantastic! We went to a
preshow and Devin of course got chosen to be a part of the show! He acted like
he hated to get up on the stage, but if you know Devin, he really loves that
kind of stuff!
Year Six: A year ago from today, I woke up excited because
it was another year to celebrate being with Devin. We did our usual gym routine
followed by a beach date at Ocean Isle Beach. We took a walk on the pier and
little did I know that there was going to be a crowd of people there standing
on that pier waiting for me that evening holding a banner that Devin had made
that said “Will You Marry Me” on it.
Year Seven: This past year we decided to take it easy since
we are saving up for a HONEYMOOOOOOON. I say we took it easy, but Devin made
the day so special for me. We started out our day with a beach crossfit WOD.
After the workout, we decided to go paddle boarding in the waterway at ocean
isle beach. Little did we know that if you go outside of the cannels, the
current is RIDICIOUS! We got ourselves kind of stuck out in the middle of the
waterway, trying to fight the current. Remember now, we had JUST finished a
crossfit WOD, so we were already pretty sore. After we made it back into the
channel, we returned the boards and were about ready to head to our houses to
get ready for our dinner date when we realized we were locked out of Devin’s
truck. Since we were paddle boarding, we left EVERYTHING in the truck…shoes,
clothes, money, wallet, keys. Helpless, right? After we finally got back in the
truck and got to get ready we headed down to Myrtle Beach. We walked around
aimlessly in Broadway at the Beach. We did a lot of window shopping (remember…honeymoon
fund). We did dinner and a movie that night. I could not have been happier with
our day. It is rare that we get a DATE NIGHT in the summer because owns a
summer business so anytime spent together is worth soaking up every second.
During this past year of engagement, I feel like Devin and I
have been through some of the hardest times and some of the best times. Devin
and I had to do the whole long distance relationship when he went off to
college and I was still in high school. After I went to college it was back to
normal! We both lived in Greenville when we were in school and we both lived in
ocean isle during the summer. Devin moved back home after graduating from ECU
and in August I had one more year of school to complete. It was so hard being
away from him weeks at a time. Devin is seriously my best friend. Not seeing
your best friend every day really shows you how much you rely on them from day
to day. It was the small things I had to get used to doing without him while he
wasn’t with me, such as what I was going to do after class, my dinner plans, my
gym times, etc. It was challenging but it made our love for one another so much
stronger. We know we are better when we are together.
I am so blessed to
have been given Devin as my partner in this crazy thing we call life. I have
been given so much time with him, from high school, college, and now post college.
I am so excited to see what our future holds but he reminds me all the time to
not rush what we have right now. I have been so lucky to have been a part of
his life for such a long time because I have seen a whole life transformation.
I have seen a lost sinner turn into a man who constantly seeks after God. I am
so happy to have found a man who I know will lead a Christ filled home one day.
He helps me daily with my walk with Christ and for that I am forever thankful.
This is the LAST June 8th as a single woman and
for that….I AM EXCITED!
